Coffee Shop Lingo

Espresso means "fast coffee." The coffee beans used for espresso blends are the highest quality of the Arabica varieties and are generally roasted longer for a darker, richer roast. Espresso beans are ground to a very fine consistency and immediately brewed to insure freshness. The brewing process consists of purified water being forced through the grounds by 130 pounds of pressure. The result is a single serving, "a shot," of only the best elements of the coffee bean. Espresso can be served straight or combined with steamed milk and flavored syrups to create a variety of drinks.
